Intel shows off its Haswell HD Graphics against Nvidia's 650M
In the Anandtech video below Intel demos its' new Haswell desktop CPU integrated graphics Vs. an ASUS notebook equipped with a 650M video card. The two systems are running a Dirt 3 benchmark with all settings set to high quality and a resolution of 1920x1080.
Watching at the benchmark being run it looks like Intel's integrated GPU can push out about 45 frames per second on Dirt 3 which is pretty damn impressive. However, even though Intel's newest HD series of integrated graphics is more powerful than its last generation, I'm not going to ditch my current video card for it. I see integrated graphics as a solution for those who watch high res videos and causally game titles that aren't very graphically demanding. If your an enthusiast your still going to want to run a big fat discrete GPU.
Like Anand says in his article, I do see Haswell being important for mobile computing because it will uses less watts than Ivy Bridge and its' performance will help OEMs make better thinner and lighter laptops with good graphics. Intel's newest HD graphics also look like they might be able to one day challenge discrete video cards and I see this maybe happening in 5 years or so.
